So I haven't really made any progress on my throw. I blame the fact that I've been using the television and movies as a way to make noise while I job search instead of using them for while I knit (what I usually do).

However last week I ended up finding some wonderful knitting books while killing time at barnes & noble and I was so surprised that I hadn't been up to par on them lately. I got totally excited. I also am motivated enough to start attempting things like sweaters and socks even though I'm frightened I will try!!

Anyway i should finish this throw first heh.

MORE AUDIOBOOKS AND NPR ALL IN ONE?!

So I adore my ipod, I really do. I need it all the time and I love it and it does all the fun stuff except two things. I can't listen to NPR on it and I can't download these digital audiobooks from the library which are free as opposed to audible where i used to download stuff but it costs $$ which i have little of right now. So I bought myself a little mp3 player (a sansa clip) so I can listen to them and i realized now it also has a FM tuner which means I can also listen to NPR.

The best part about all this? It's all stuff i can also do while I knit! Which excites me to no end.
hooray.

I've been going back and forth on whether or not I should renew my interweave knits subscription. I figure I'm better off looking at it in the store to see if i want to knit anything from the issues before I buy them. But I don't know if that turns out to be more or less expensive then the subscription. It works for now though so...

do you subscribe to any knitting magazines? if so which?

updating again

I've recently realized I stopped updating this. I'm going to start again. I recently gave away almost all my needles and yarn stash (but i can reclaim it at any point) to my mom. See my mom is cheap, she loves to knit but would never buy all the stuff for it herself (she thinks it's too expensive). I figured it was worth the sacrifice to get her to knit and I would slowly buy my stuff over again. At least I kept the jordana paige knitting bag, and almost all of the books. That's really what matters because my yarn stash was nothing too impressive just massive amounts.

So I decided to start knitting again while watching reruns of tv (Stupid writers strike). I wanted to learn cables so i decided to knit the cable comfort throw from lion brand with some wool-ease thick and quick. It's a pattern that consists of 5 panels (they look like long cabled scarves) which you sew together to make a throw. It's at least gotten me to get the hang of cabling which I've wanted to learn for the longest. Now I realize it's really easy but I need to finish the throw. That, and I'm always cold so it would be nice to have a throw for my lap.

I'm currently on the 2nd panel, almost done. I'll show you all what it looks like when I finish.

I meant to post about this sooner but I had this killer course last semester and have to work on a paper all through break, it sucks.

BUT my secret pal sent me this amazing package of goodies. First of all, 3 skeins of handspun and one in PINK (cause you know me + pink = love) and blues and greens! She also sent me a bunch of knit picks wool in different colors which I think I may make a bag out of, I'm not sure yet but they're really pretty. I'll post a picture soon I just can't seem to find my cord. She also sent me all these cool patterns and a Handbag note card set (ahh a gal after my own heart heh) and chocolate YUM! So thank you very much secret pal, you rock.

In other knitting news, umm oh yeah there is none. ALTHOUGH, I'm about to cast on a calorimetry because I almost always wear my hair in a ponytail and I'm sick and tired of my ears getting cold. January apparently has remembered to be cold.
Wow,

Today was an awesome mail day! First, I got my satchel!! it's huge and lovely and I'm saving my time to totally organize it and make it all perfect. You know what else it's good for? bpal imps and roller bottles! there's so many little compartments for everything I love love love it. Thanks to yarnharpy i'm so glad i got one too! I wish they did make it in black though, I would love it in a more neutral color then gray, or even a dark coffee brown. oh well.

Then, I got a whole slew of yarn I knew I could never use from my secret pal. Secret Pal I hope you don't mind but I donated some to a knitting club who's been doing charity knitting for the holidays. I'm hoping they'll be able to use it because they were asking for yarn donations.

Today I also got together some of my own stash to donate to their cause. Let's be honest, I'm never going to use all this red heart acrylic stuff. Even if I made a ton of non-sensical items. So I'm passing it on, but I don't know what they'd use it for either. What is that non-soft acrylic yarn used for generally anyway? It's not knitting. it can't be knitting!! and if it is for knitting, then well, KNITTING WHAT? Anyone want to tell me? See, when I was a beginning knitter I thought that was "the" yarn to have so I would buy tons of it on sale and now I realize, I would never use it all. So if anyone has suggestions feel free to pass them on.

Then I sent my own spoilee her next goodies and I tried to get together another package I owe a special someone but it didn't happen so maybe next time.

Project progress, well my mom gave away that one baby blanket before I got a pic of it, but she just finished another in all white and a little cream on the ends, I'm gonna try to get a pic of that next. She's knitting a scarf for her oncologist next.

Me? I'm knitting my damn so-called scarf still. Or as I call it the scarf o' doom, See malbrigo does not like to be ripped out. it's too fuzzy and it's not easy and well yes, it's o' doom. But I'm on my second skein and getting it to the point of being long enough the way I like to wear my scarves.

I wear my scarf like this. how do you wear yours?

So school work is killing me. But I've decided in order to knit I need to start incorporating knitting into my work. so I did this monoprint that I'm going to incorporate bits of knitting into due this thursday. pictures when I finish I promise. It's a diptych in a variable edition of 3 and I'm totally excited for it to be finished, I spent most of my weekend on it too.

Til November 4th my artist book I made about my mom when she first had cancer is up on display at Gallery 3.5 at my school. That's kind of neat, but the reception is when I have class. So i emailed my friends and maybe we can have our own little reception.

I'll post pics of the artwork as soon as it's done! Toodles.

OH YEAH and my one skein package got lost :( as well as other packages I sent out that day and dvds to netflix :( :(. I called the post office and apparently someone bombed that mailbox or something and there's really nothing they can do about it.

I have to knit up her another gift. and Thank my own one skein pal (whom i didn't yet) for sending me such a pretty scarf and wonderful gifts for this exchange!

I'll reveal them all when I'm not rushing to class!!

ALSO i'm so excited for SP9 my secret pal is so sweet and my match up seems amazing too!

So, I'm not knitting again, school is killing me with time constraints and I wanna stab time with my pointy sticks so i can sit down and finish my clapotis! IT WOULD BE THE PERFECT TIME FOR IT RIGHT NOW.

but because i'm crazy I've been internalizing what it would be like to mix my knitting with my artwork.

My spoilee for secret pal is away away and hasn't posted her survey yet (I know she's really busy and am so happy for her) but I'm DYING to spoil her but have nothing really to go on. So I'll wait, patiently and stuff.

Halloween is coming! I Love Halloween, I really wish I could crochet so I could make cute little pumpkins and things, I'm going to try though, as soon as midterms are over.

Okay back to studying for midterms.

Oh and I stepped on an imp of BPAL jack, and my entire room now reeks of pumpkin but it doesn't bother me so much. I think I like pumpkiny smelly goodness.

Video ipods, and netflix have revolutionized what I imagine to be some of my best knitting times ever!

However, right now I dream about knitting when all I need to do is finish this paper on Sassetta. Which by the way is one of the most boring papers ever. just in case you didn't know.

if I'm still procrastinating later I'll post a pic of some books and my clapotis. Oh Secret Pal here's a link to one of my handmade books I made a few years ago.

Secret Pal #9 questionaire

Well first things first, my one skein pal should come across me soon because I finally sent her a nice package for halloween and the end of our exchange. I know she likes halloween so hopefully that'll be awesome.

I haven't been knitting much right now. I have this crazy art history paper due next wednesday and a quiz in my graphics class on Tuesday so I've been DYING with school work. I went to the metropolitan musuem of art today and noticed everyone wearing scarves and sweaters and it's sweater season and i wanted to be knitting instead of looking at artwork for a 5 page paper!

Under here is my secret pal 9 questionaire. However Secret pal I will tell you, I pretty much love anything anyone ever gives me :)

1. What is/are your favorite yarn/s to knit with? What fibers do you absolutely *not* like? I'm not a huge fan of acrylics but that's because I have so many in my stash I need to use up. I'm also not a fan of yarns that like to split or lace weight yarns and I hate speciality yarns, or i should say, they hate me and never worked for me :(

2. What do you use to store your needles/hooks in? a big sterlite container

3. How long have you been knitting & how did you learn? Would you consider your skill level to be beginner, intermediate or advanced? I've been knitting about 3 or 4 years now, I learned as a child from my grandma forgot and then my mother retaught me to knit. I've now far surpassed her expertise and it bothers me. I would say I'm intermediate. I haven't figured out those damn double pointed needles yet.

4. Do you have an Amazon or other online wish list? I do! My regular wish list (with a few knitting things thrown in here and there) is here. I also have another one here which I made for friends and family but I tend to add to it a lot lately, here

5. What's your favorite scent? (for candles, bath products, etc.) I'm really into BPAL (http://blackphoenixalchemylab.com) however I also love things that smell minty or like strawberries :) I also am SO obsessed with yankee candles right now, minty scents with vanilla is my fave in anything though.

6. Do you have a sweet tooth? Favorite candy? I do, I really love Trident Splash gum in strawberry with lime but I also have a thing for snickers bars, 3 musketeers, and candy corn. I also love candy canes around christmas (the non-minty ones), also you know those tootsie roll midges they come out with around halloween in different flavors? I love those! And linda's lollis, love those too.

7. What other crafts or Do-It-Yourself things do you like to do? Do you spin? I do not spin, but I am an art student. I specialize in handmade paper (i.e. I make my own), printmaking, and book binding.

8. What kind of music do you like? Can your computer/stereo play MP3s? (if your buddy wants to make you a CD) I have pretty eclectic taste but I really love old music, old 70s, 80s, etc. Stuff that was popular but no one really listens to anymore? I love mp3s too :)

9. What's your favorite color(s)? Any colors you just can't stand? I like blues and pinks and blacks. I pretty much don't go for browns or neutrals of sorts.

10. What is your family situation? Do you have any pets? I live with my parents and no i don't have any pets :)

11. Do you wear scarves, hats, mittens or ponchos? No ponchos at all.

12. What is/are your favorite item/s to knit? Hats and scarves. I've been working on 2 clapotii for like ever

13. What are you knitting right now? 2 clapotis that aren't getting knit they just kind of sit there.

14. Do you like to receive handmade gifts? Yes I do.

15. Do you prefer straight or circular needles? Bamboo, aluminum, plastic? I'm a fan of aluminum straights

16. Do you own a yarn winder and/or swift? A yarn winder yes, a swift no.

17. How old is your oldest UFO? 2 years? i think that's how long i've been working on clapotis, or maybe just one.

18. What is your favorite holiday? HALLOWEEN! BY FAR! but no one here really celebrates it so i kind of make my own fun out of it cupcakes and all.

19. Is there anything that you collect? BPAL and mac cosmetics. and handbags. I'm a hoarder, i buy too much crap and save it. I also love books. candles? i'm into yankee candles everywhere lately, the real small ones because i'm so finicky i like to mix up scents.

20. Any books, yarns, needles or patterns out there you are dying to get your hands on? What knitting magazine subscriptions do you have? I subscribe to interweave knits and knit.1, i really want the stitchionary set (i only have the first volume right now)

21. Are there any new techniques you'd like to learn? I want to learn sock knitting but i don't think it's going to happen until i find someone who can teach me in person

22. Are you a sock knitter? What are your foot measurements? No i am not, i wish i was. I am a size 9 US shoe, 40 European.

23. When is your birthday? (mm/dd) May 11th.

so i'm doing this handmade book and i'm trying incorporate knitting more into my mixed media pieces. I'm thinking for this one I'll go simple and make a knitted book jacket instead of anything too fancy. The problem? i never got measurements right, and in a book jacket, they need to be perfect, this means i need a good gauge swatch, have i mentioned that I always mess up my gauge swatches?

OH MAN OH MAN!

Also I'm such a bad one skein friend, I thought I dropped of her package over 2 weeks ago and found it in the trunk today. I was wondering why she never posted she got my gift. oops, that'll go out.

Oh yeah and I'm participating in SP9! and expect more updates here. this blog seems so empty lately no?
